Why its important to make sure to properly nesting materials from walls and ceilings

Did you know that many stinging insects nesting within wall and ceiling voids can lead to mold growth, wood decay and wood damage? Many stinging insects bring moisture into wall cavities with materials used to build the nest, food reserves, honey and nectar. If the nesting materials are not removed, it also can lead to further infestations as other pests, such as wasps, moths or beetles, move in to feed on the remains of larvae, honey and dead insects.

After extracting the nest, it’s important to scrape all remaining nest materials off the structure and allow adequate drying time. Test the wood for moisture content (using a moisture meter, it should be below 19 percent) before allowing the structure to be closed.

An additional preventive step is to apply a wood preservative containing a disinfectant capable of killing and preventing mold growth and stopping decay onto the wood members before allowing the wood to dry.
