The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which serves as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), will celebrate Tick Awareness Week from May 4-10. The event aims to educate the public about the serious threats ticks pose to humans and pets. Research conducted by the NPMA showed that just 46 percent of Americans are aware that ticks can spread different diseases to humans through their bites.

“As tick-borne disease cases increase, and ticks expand into new regions, the role of pest control professionals has never been more crucial,” said Dr. Jim Fredericks, BCE, executive director of PPMA. “As an industry, it’s our duty to lead the charge in educating the public on prevention, proper removal techniques and the essential part we play in reducing the risks associated with tick encounters.”

During the week, all PPMA social media channels, @PestWorld, will spread awareness and direct consumers to the TickTalk.org microsite and PestWorld.org, for expert information on tick prevention and control.
